Born in Indiana, USA in 1954 and grew up in Paducah, KY with time spent in NYC, Nashville, and Los Angeles, settling in Houston, TX in 1977.
I am mostly self-taught in the mediums of acrylic painting, watercolor, gouache, collage and minimalist sculpture.
Creative careers in picture framing/gallery work (10 years), custom rug and carpet design and manufacture (10 years), and interior design (15 years) helped define a creative life. The discovery of a spiritual path in 1984 led me to India for a period and a realization that the best expression of my spirituality is through creating.
In 2003, entering a life in recovery from alcoholism, brought on an explosion of creativity and an ever-deepening spiritual search.
After years painting bright landscapes and other subjects using pastels on paper, a need for easier storage and presentation arose and I changed to acrylic on canvas. An experiment with sepia tones (burnt umber and titanium white) led to a monochromatic palette for years. This adaptation of sepia tone opened a new freedom for composition and led to an expansion of my creative self. Hundreds of works have been inspired by the sepia palette. Still more images created from multi-medias in surrealism to abstract, minimalism to maximalism. While often leaning toward neoclassic surrealism, most of my work carries with it a sense of mirth and mystery (a lot like my personality). I am currently producing a long running series of small-scale art, perfect for display on table tops or bookcases.
I have exhibited in eight solo shows and eleven group shows in Houston TX
Multiple group shows in New York NY, Red Bluff CA, Univ of California Davis, Austin TX, Bartlesville OK, Dayton OH, Welwyn Garden UK, Becklinghausen DE
